Joan Day studied art at Gloucester School of Art and Crafts in the 1930s. She quickly found her talent for fashion drawing. She was an excellent seamstress and milliner, and gained an award from The Worshipful Company of Needlemakers. She still found time over the years to keep drawing and experimented in watercolours, oils and pastels, but her greatest passion was drawing.
Jan Day studied art at Gloucestershire College of Art, (the Principal had taught her mother at Gloucester in the 30s), and Graphic Design at Canterbury College of Art. She has worked as a graphic designer, including illustration and children's book publicity, in London, Australia and California.
